Water Statistics in Kosovo, 2020-2021

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has released the "Water Statistics in Kosovo" for the years 2020-2021

This is the fourth publication of Water Statistics released by the Kosovo Agency of Statistics. This publication provides comprehensive statistical data on water resources in Kosovo and aims to contribute to the creation of consistent information on the water situation in Kosovo.

This publication is conducted every two years. The main source of water in Kosovo is atmospheric precipitation.

In 2021 the total number of days with rain in Prishtina was 126 days, while in 2020 there were 128 days with rain.

In January 2021, the number of days with monthly rainfall was 17 days, while in August it was 4 days.

Total average annual rainfall in Kosovo in 2021 was 809.1 mm / year, while in 2020 it was 663.3 mm / year.

Meanwhile, the average maximum and minimum air temperatures in Prishtina were 31.0°C / -0.7°C in 2021, compared to 2020 which was 28.9 / -4.5°C.

The data from this publication indicate that in 2020 about 96.84% of the population of Kosovo was supplied with drinking water through public systems, managed by Regional Water Companies. Whereas, 3.16% of the population did not have access to public water services.

The supply of drinking water to households has changed from year to year. In 2021 the supply of households with drinking water was 53.13 million m³ / year, while in 2020 it was 50.7 million m³ / year.

The amount of water consumed by households, supplied with water by the public system, in 2020 was 2.54 m³ / month and 0.08 m³ per day. Calculated in liters, 84.67 liters / day per inhabitant.

Meanwhile, the water spent for irrigation with system in agriculture in 2021 was 56.89 million m³ / year. Whereas, the amount of water used for irrigation in agriculture from wells in 2021 was 20.80 million m³ / year.
