Water Statistics in Kosovo, 2018-2019

Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the "Water Statistics in Kosovo" for the years 2018-2019.

This is the third publication of Water Statistics published by the Kosovo Agency of Statistics. This publication provides comprehensive statistical data on water resources in Kosovo and aims to contribute to the creation of sustainable information on the water situation in Kosovo. This publication is released every two years.

The main source of water in Kosovo is atmospheric precipitation. Thus, in 2019 the total number of days with atmospheric precipitation was 125, which is 25 days less than in 2018 (which was 150 days). Meanwhile, the average annual rainfall was 692.40 mm / year in 2019, compared to 692.40 mm / year in 2018.

Meanwhile, the maximum / minimum air temperatures in Prishtina were 31.6°C / -6°C in 2019, compared to 29.8°C / -3.0°C in 2018.

The data from this publication indicate that in 2018 about 86.31% of the population of Kosovo is supplied with drinking water through public systems, managed by Regional Water Companies. Whereas, 13.69% of the population did not have access to public water services.

Drinking water supply to households has changed from year to year. Compared to 2017 (which was 49,194 million m³ of water) in 2018 (48,300 million m³ of water), the supply of drinking water has decreased slightly (-2%).

The amount of water consumed per capita by households connected to the public system in 2018 was: 2.60 m³ per month and 0.09 m³ per day. And calculated in liters it was: 86.67 liters / day per capita.

Meanwhile, the water spent for irrigation with a system in agriculture in 2019 was 52.60 million m³ / year. Whereas, the amount of water used for irrigation in agriculture from wells in 2019 was 18.44 million m³ / year.
