The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the results of the Waste Treatment Survey in 2019 (WTS 2019).

WTS aims to: collect statistical data from businesses dealing with waste treatment (regional landfills, hospital waste treatment facilities, sterilization and industrial waste treatment facilities); providing sustainable statistical data; and creating a time series for waste treatment.

The results presented in this publication provide an important statistical source for the current state of this sector.

The results from WTS 2019 indicate that: the quantity of recycled waste was 3 754 tons / year; the quantity of sterilized waste (hospital waste) was 874 tons / year; and the total quantity of waste treated and disposed in 2019 was 450 175 tons / year.

The quantity of waste treated, by type of waste and type of treatment, expressed as a percentage in 2019, was as follows: metals (54%), plastic waste (22%), hospital waste (19%), paper and cardboard waste (5%).

The quantity of waste disposed in sanitary and non-sanitary landfills in 2019 was 445 547 tons / year. Compared to the data of 2018, there is an increase by 5%.
