Waste Treatment Survey, 2018

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the results of the Waste Treatment Survey in 2018 (WTS 2018).

The main purpose of the implementation of WTS 2018 has been to collect statistical data from businesses dealing with waste treatment (regional landfills, hospital waste treatment facilities, sterilization and industrial waste treatment facilities), to provide sustainable statistical data and to create time series.

The results presented in this publication provide an important statistical source for the current state of the sector.

The results from the WTS indicate that in 2018: the quantity of recycled waste was 3 193 tons / year; the quantity of sterilized waste (hospital waste) was 460 tons / year. Whereas, the total quantity of waste treated in 2018 was 429 534 tons / year.

The quantity of waste treated, by waste type and type of treatment, expressed as a percentage, in 2018, was as follows: metals (51%); plastic waste (28%); hospital waste (12%); burnt waste (6%); and waste paper and cardboard (3%).

The quantity of waste disposed of in sanitary and non-sanitary landfills in 2018 was 425 667 tons / year. Compared to the data of 2017, in 2018 there it a slight increase by 2%.
