The Kosovo Agency of Statistics held a consultative meeting with representatives of international development offices and international organizations in the Republic of Kosovo
Today's meeting marks an important activity for the Population Census, a constructive debate regarding the finalization of the content of the 2023 Population, Household and Dwellings Census questionnaires. After the decision of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo to set the date 01 September - 16 October 2023 as the period when the Population Census in Kosovo will be conducted, KAS has intensified preparations for the Population Census.
The dialogue with representatives of international development offices and international organizations in the Republic of Kosovo affects the achievement of the common goal in the realization of the Census based on the best state and international practices, in full accordance with the international recommendations of the UN and the legislation of the European Union.
The Kosovo Agency of Statistics and representatives of international development offices and international organizations in the country have discussed the activities of the conduction of the Population Census, with a focus on the content of the questionnaires of the Population Census. The meeting was opened by the Acting Chief Executive Officer of KAS, Mr. Ilir Berisha, who mentioned the role of Census and statistical data for all official information in the Republic of Kosovo. He further emphasized that the Kosovo Agency of Statistics, and all the staff involved in the Population Census project, will be maximally committed to a democratic Census process, where all people living in Kosovo, without overlooking anyone, and none part of the territory, will be enumerated and officially counted. Also, data will be collected for the diaspora.
At the end of his speech, he thanked all representatives from international offices and organizations for their contribution and support to the national Census project.
The head of the UNFPA office in Kosovo, Mrs. Visare Namani-Mujko, in her opening speech, spoke about the importance of updated statistical data for key demographic and socio-economic indicators. Population Census data will help to achieve the fulfillment of obligations for the European agenda for statistics and the achievement of the global agenda for the 244 indicators of the Agenda for Sustainable Development, for almost the next decade to 2030.
The Deputy Head of the Council of Europe in Kosovo, Mr. Tankuz Soykan, said that the Population Census is a very important activity for decision-making and goes towards fulfilling the international criteria for democratization, the rule of law and sustainable development. He recommended that during the conduction of the Census in the country, the recommendations given by the Council of Europe should be applied.
Population Census Manager, Mr. Avni Kastrati, informed the participants about the realization of activities of the Census, where he presented in detail the content of the questionnaires of the Population, Household and Dwellings Census.
The second part of the meeting continued with a constructive discussion on the content of the Census questionnaires. Representatives of the Kosovo Agency of Statistics accepted the proposals and comments that were addressed, so that the questionnaires of the Population Census are as qualitative as possible and in full compliance with the best national and international practices.
