Since the beginning of January 2023, the Kosovo Agency of Statistics has been holding consultative meetings with the leaders of municipalities and representatives of local institutions in the Republic of Kosovo regarding the organization and progress of the activities of the Population Census. Consultative meetings will be held throughout the January 2023, in order to continue with regular periodic meetings thereafter.

These meetings come after the inter-institutional consultations that took place throughout the month of December 2022, with all the central institutions in the country. The purpose of the consultative meetings is to get to know the Census process, as well as the role, duties and responsibilities that each municipality has in the Census process. During the meetings, all municipal officials have expressed their readiness for cooperation and coordination of activities in order to achieve comprehensive and qualitative Census.

Based on the Law on Population and Housing Census in Kosovo no.08/L-114, the role and responsibilities of the municipalities in Kosovo are defined within the Municipal Census Commission (MCC), which is established in each municipality. The MCC represents the ethnic structure of the population, taking into consideration the legal provisions for the representation of non-majority communities.

The implementation of all normative measures and the delegation of responsibilities in time directly affect the quality and accuracy of all operational activities of the national Population Census 2023 project.

Dialogue with representatives of the local level, mayors, and representatives of local institutions in the Republic of Kosovo, regarding the organization and progress of the Population Census activities, is an important part of inter-institutional cooperation.
