Some Facts on the Environment

  Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published "Some Facts on the Environment ''.

The publication "Some Facts on the Environment" aims to inform different users about the environmental status of Kosovo regarding statistics. This modest publication aims to contribute to creating a sustainable information on environmental situation in Kosovo.

The publication was realized by the Kosovo Agency of Statistics by using all available sources of data. They are put together in a way to facilitate the portrayal of the environmental status of Kosovo.

Published indices are: economic and social indicators, energy, agriculture, forestry, transport, air, water, biodiversity and waste.

To economic and social indicators, in the environmental sector is the lowest rate of employment for the years 2003-2013. There is only 0.3-0.4% of the total number of employees.

Employees in the sector of culture and recreation, in 2013, made up about 1.3% compared with other years.

In energy: coal production in Kosovo grown from year to a year, such as in 2006 has been 653,240 tons of coal while in 2013 reached 821,939 tons of coal.

In agriculture: agricultural land owned or cultivated by households accounts for about 73.1% of the total area of agricultural households.

In forestry, the forested area in 2013 was 538.00 ha (acres).

The air: high values of PM10 and PM2.5 was reached in December 2012 at the measuring point in Gjilan. Also, the data show that the high values of PM10 and PM2.5 was achieved in December 2013 also at the point of measurement in Gjilan.

Waste: total amount of municipal waste collected in Kosovo in 2013 was 574,817 tons. 2013 data show that the average municipal waste generated was 317 kg per inhabitant per year.
