Results of the Household Budget Survey (HBS), 2016
Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the results of the Household Budget Survey (HBS) for 2016. This publication provides data on consumption, expenditures, household income, etc.
From the results of this publication, the total consumption in Kosovo in 2016 was 2 321 million euros, while for households 7 539 euros, and per capita 1 460 euro. The total consumption in 2016 compared to 2015, has a slight decline of 5.7%, while consumption per capita has a 2% increase. Much of the household budget in 2016 was spent on food (42%) and housing (29%). Costs for clothes are 5% and 4% for transport, alcohol, tobacco and furniture.
Meanwhile, compared to 2015, in 2016, food production from own production in general consumption fell by 6%.
Food consumption in Kosovo in 2016, according to the HBS results, is dominated by meat, milk, cheese, eggs, bread and cereals, contributing to more than half the food consumption (in value). Next are listed vegetables and non-alcoholic beverages. The consumption of bread and cereals in 2016 was 17%, as it was in 2015.
Whereas, the most important source of household income according to HBS 2016, are both private and public sector salaries, pensions, own-source income, and remittances, which decreased by 1% compared to 2015.
