Results of "Labour Force Survey (LFS) in Kosovo", Q3 2016

Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) through this press release provides users of official statistics with the main results of the Labour Force Survey (LFS) for the third quarter of 2016.

The survey was spread in 578 enumeration areas in the whole country, which surveyed 3 798 households, selected randomly, in the framework of the Population, Households and Dwellings Census 2011. Households selected for the survey, except that they had a survey, they had three re-surveys according to the reference period.

This publication contains detailed data on employment and unemployment according to age, gender, employment status, economic activities, occupations and other similar issues dealing with the labor market.

The results derived from this publication indicates that two thirds of the population in Kosovo are in the working age population, where the working age population aged 15-64 years are included.

Within the working age population, the participation rate in the workforce is 40.2%.

The employment rate in the Labour Force Survey (LFS) for the third quarter of 2016 was 29.2%. Higher employment is for males (44.9%), while employment among females is 13.1%. Females are employed mainly in the sectors of education, trade and health care, with about 51%, while males are mainly employed in the manufacturing, construction and trade, with around 44.6%.

The economic sectors that lead to employment continue to be trade with 14.3%, construction by 12.8%, manufacturing 12.7% and education with 10.4%. While other sectors participate with the smallest percentage in employment.

Regarding employment contracts, it appears that 30.1% of employed persons have a permanent contract in their main job, while 69.9% have temporary contracts.

According to the results of the LFS Q3 2016, the unemployment rate was 27.5%. Unemployment is more pronounced with 32.3% of females compared with males, 26.0%. Emphasizing the extent of unemployment in the age group of 15-24 with 52.7%.

According to the results of the LFS Q3 2016, inactive force is quite high with 59.8%, with a particular focus on females at 80.7%, compared to males, 39.4%.

For the realization of LFS Q3 2016, methodology and standards applied by the KAS are harmonized with the Eurostat recommendations. These data are considered as preliminary data of the third quarter of 2016 from the LFS.

In this case, KAS thank the participants and stakeholders in the implementation of LFS for Q3 2016. At the same time, it informs all users of official statistics that KAS, within its budget, is continuously making efforts to increase capacity for sustainable and qualitative published statistics.
