REKOS CONFERENCE "POPULATION CENSUS WEEK IN KOSOVO" CONTINUES
The Conference Week on Population, Households and Dwellings Census has continued its work on the second day with discussions on the importance of the Population Census as a national project.
At the opening of the conference, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Kosovo Agency of Statistics, Mr. Ilir Berisha, spoke about the importance of reliable official data for the entire national statistical system. Present on the second day of the conference were representatives from statistical agencies of the region, representatives from executive institutions, state agencies, members of the Academy of Sciences of Kosovo, representatives from universities, researchers, representatives from the business sector, publicists and journalists.
The Director of the State Statistical Office of the Republic of North Macedonia, Mr. Apostol Simovski, mentioned to the audience the lessons learned from the Population Census in the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as the best state practices for a comprehensive and quality Census.
The Chairwoman of the Statistical Council of Kosovo, Mrs. Rahmije Topxhiu Mustafa, spoke about the importance of the Population Census and the need for fresh and quality data in order to create the basis of all scientific research and the possibilities of producing statistical indicators that are important for the country.
Mr. Florim Isufi mentioned the importance of statistical data quality and inclusiveness as a guarantee for the realization of the process of collection, analysis and publication of Population Census statistical data. Ms. Gillian Green, Leader of the Project "Strengthening the statistical system of Kosovo" emphasized the importance of implementing European regulations and standards for a quality Census, when she presented important parts of the European Statistics Code of Practice.
Population Census Manager, Mr. Avni Kastrati, presented the strategic objectives, latest technological developments, challenges and priorities for the year 2023. The meeting was concluded with discussions on the methodology, implementation approaches and phases of implementationof the project.
Population Census Week will last until November 11, 2022, for the activities of which the public opinion in Kosovo will be notified in time. This activity is organized with the support of the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA office in Kosovo.
