Population Estimation, 2019
The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has estimated the number of population for the year of 2019.
Estimating the population number is a necessity, practice and standard required to be done every year or on an annual basis by the official statistical institutions of a country.
This is due to the fact that in the period between the two censuses (ten-year period) there are significant changes in the population of a country, a municipality or a settlement level.
Annual statistical data on the population (demographics) are fundamental for studying and determining of a wide range of analysis. Especially, analysis of social and economic issues at certain levels: municipal, national and regional level. Population data is the key component for national account estimation, employment and other socio-economic issues.
In 2019, the population of Kosovo had a natural increase of 15 294 inhabitants. It is estimated that during this year, 9,132 people have changed their place of residence (municipality); immigrated (including returnees) in Kosovo 6 066 persons; and emigrated 34 911 persons.
The international migration balance (net migration) in 2019 was -28 845 inhabitants. Whereas, the resident population of Kosovo, for the period 01 January - 31 December 2019, decreased by -13 551 inhabitants.
The population in Kosovo in 2019 is estimated to be 1 782 115 resident inhabitants.
