Population Estimation, 2018

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics has estimated the number of population for the year of 2018.

Estimating the number of the population is a necessity, practice, and standard that is required on annual basis by the institutions of official statistics of a country.

This is due to the fact that in the period between the two censuses (ten year period) there are significant changes in the population of a country, municipal or settlement level.

Annual population data (demographics) are fundamental for studying and determining a wide range of analysis. Especially, analysis of social and economic issues at certain levels: municipal, national and regional level. Population data is the key component for national account estimates, employment and other socio-economic issues.

In 2018 Kosovo's population had a natural increase of 18,562 inhabitants, or expressed in percentage, has increased by 1.02%. In 2018 it is estimated that 8,967 persons changed their place of residence (municipality), while 6,762 persons immigrated (including returnees) to Kosovo while the number of emigration was significantly higher, with 28,164 persons emigrating from Kosovo. The international migration (net migration) balance in Kosovo in 2018 is -21,402 inhabitants.

The resident population of Kosovo for the period 01 January to 31 December 2018 decreased by -2,840 or -0.16%.

Population in Kosovo in 2017 is estimated to be 1,795,666 resident inhabitants.
