Population Estimates, 2017

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the "Population Estimation" for the year of 2017.

Estimate of the number of the population is a necessity, practice, and standard that is required on an annual basis by the institutions of official statistics of a country.

This is due to the fact that in the period between the two censuses (ten year period) there are significant changes in the population of a country, municipality or settlement level.

Annual population data (demographics) are fundamental for studying and determining a wide range of analysis. Especially, analysis of social and economic issues at certain levels: municipal, national and regional level. Population data is the key component for national account estimates, employment and other socio-economic issues.

During 2017, the population of Kosovo had a natural increase of 20 406 inhabitants, or expressed in percentage, increased by 1.13%. During 2017 it is estimated that 9 376 persons have changed their place of residence (municipality). The international migration balance (net migration) in Kosovo for 2017 was (-5 431 inhabitants).

The resident population of Kosovo for the period 01 January to 31 December 2017 increased to 14 975 inhabitants, or 0.84%.

The population in Kosovo for 2017 is estimated to be 1 798 506 resident inhabitants.
