Population Assessment, 2021

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has made the Population Estimate for 2021.

Estimating population size is a necessity, practice and standard, required to be done every year by the official statistical institutions of a country. This is due to the fact that in the period between the two censuses (ten-year period) there are significant changes in the population of a country, municipality or settlement of residence.

Annual statistical data on the population (demographics) are essential for the study and definition of a wide range of analyzes. In particular, analysis of social and economic issues at certain levels: municipal, national and regional. Population data constitute the essential component for estimates of national accounts, employment and other socio-economic issues.

During 2021, the population of Kosovo had a natural increase of 14 391 people. It is estimated that during this year: 7 353 persons have changed their place of residence (municipality); immigrants (including returnees) in Kosovo, 4 122 persons; and 42 728 persons have emigrated.

Whereas, the balance of international migration (net migration) for 2021 was (-38 606 inhabitants). Meanwhile, the resident population of Kosovo, for the period 01 January - 31 December 2021, decreased by (-24 215 inhabitants).

The population in Kosovo for 2021 is estimated to be 1,773. 971 resident inhabitants.
