Municipal Waste Survey, 2020
The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the results of the Municipal Waste Survey (MWS) in 2020.
The results of the MWS in 2020 indicate that the quantity of municipal waste, collected by regional waste companies and private economic operators who deal with municipal waste management in Kosovo for 2020, was 456 thousand tons.
Data of 2020 indicate that the average municipal waste collected in Kosovo was 253 kg per inhabitant per year. Whereas, the average waste collected per inhabitant per day was 0.69 kg.
In Prishtina and its region, the collection of municipal waste per day was 0.78 kg / inhabitant / day. While in other regions of Kosovo, the quantity of municipal waste collected per day, per inhabitant was 0.66 kg.
From the municipal waste data collected by regions in 2020, it is observed that the largest quantity of waste collected was in the region of Prishtina, 142 thousand tons per year, or 285 kg per inhabitant per year. Whereas, the smallest quantity of waste collected was in the region of Gjakova with 38 thousand tons per year, or 190 kg per inhabitant per year.
In total, the quantity of municipal waste collected in 2020, compared to 2019, was by 1% higher.
In total, the quantity of municipal waste collected in 2020 in Prishtina and its region has been by 2.2% higher compared to 2019.
The total quantity of municipal waste collected in 2020 in other regions has been by 0.5% higher, compared to 2019.
