Pristina with its surroundings with the largest amount of waste per capita

Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the results of the Municipal Waste Survey (MWS) for 2019

The results of MWS 2019 indicate that the quantity of municipal waste, collected by regional waste companies and private economic operators which deal with municipal waste management in Kosovo in 2019 was 452 thousand tons.

Data in 2019 indicate that the average municipal waste collected in Kosovo was 253 kg per inhabitant per year. Whereas, the average waste collected per inhabitant per day was 0.69 kg.

In Prishtina and its region, the collection of municipal waste per day was 0.77 kg / inhabitant / day. Whereas, in other regions of Kosovo, the quantity of municipal waste collected per day / inhabitant was 0.66 kg.

From the municipal waste data collected by regions in 2019, it is observed that the largest quantity of waste collected was: in the Prishtina region, 139 thousand tons per year, or 282 kg per inhabitant per year; in the Prizren region, 78 thousand tons per year, or 225 kg per inhabitant per year. Whereas, the smallest quantity of waste collected was in the Gjakova region, with 34 thousand tons per year, or 172 kg per inhabitant per year.

In total, the quantity of municipal waste collected in 2019 was 11% higher than in 2018.

In 2019, the coverage rate of households (from the municipal waste collection system) was 76%.

In total, the quantity of waste deposited in regional landfills in 2019 was 446 thousand tons, or compared to last year was 5% higher.
