Labour Force Survey, Q2 2019

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the results of the Labor Force Survey (LFS) in the second quarter of 2019.

The survey covered 449 enumeration areas throughout the country, where 3 917 households were selected according to the random method from the Population and Housing Census 2011.

This publication contains detailed data on employment and unemployment by age, gender, employment status, economic activity, occupation and other similar issues related to the labour market.

According to the results of this publication, two-thirds of the population in Kosovo is a working age population. The working age population includes the age 15-64 years old.

Within the working age population, the rate of participation in the workforce is 39.9%.

Employment rate in the Labor Force Survey in the second quarter 2019 is 29.8%.

Highest employment rate for males is 45.9%, while female employment is 13.7%. Females are employed mainly in the education, trade and healthcare sectors, with 51.6%. Whereas males are mainly employed in the trade, construction and manufacturing sectors, with 48.9%.

Economic sectors that lead with employment continue to be: trade with 17.9%; construction with 13.4%, manufacturing with 12.4%, and education with 9.7%. Other sectors, however, have a lower share of employment.

Regarding employees with contracts, it appears that 38.4% of employed persons have a permanent contract in their main job, while 61.6% have a temporary contract.

According to LFS results, in Q2 2019 the unemployment rate is 25.3%.

The highest unemployment rate is among females by 32.7%, compared to males, 22.8%. The highest unemployment rate is in the age group of 15-24 with 49.1%.

According to LFS results, in Q2 2019, inactive workforce is quite high at 60.1%, with a particular focus on females at 79.6%, compared to males at 40.6%.

For the implementation of LFS Q2 2019, the methodology and standards applied by KAS are harmonized with recommendations of Eurostat.
