Labour Force Survey (LFS) in Kosovo, Q3 2021

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has released the results of the Labour Force Survey (LFS) for the third quarter of 2022 (Q3 2021).

According to the results of the survey, two thirds of the population in Kosovo are of working age. The working age population includes the age 15-64 year-old. Within the working age population, the rate of participation in labour force is 40.6%.

The employment rate in the Labor Force Survey (LFS) for the third quarter (Q3) 2021 is 33.4%.

The highest employment was among males with 49.9%, while employment among females was 17.1%.

Females are mainly employed in the education, trade and health care sectors, with 51.8% of them, while males are mainly employed in the trade, construction and manufacturing sectors with 42.3%.

Economic sectors that lead with employment continue to be: trade with 17.1%; construction with 12.1%; education with 9.3%; and manufacturing by 9.2%. While, other sectors participate with a smaller percentage in employment.

As for those employed with contracts, it appears that 42.8% of employed persons have a permanent contract in their main job, while 57.2% have a temporary contract.

According to the results of the LFS, in Q3 2021 the unemployment rate is 17.7%.

The most pronounced unemployment was among females with 23.9%, compared to males, 15.3%. The highest unemployment rate is among the 15-24 age group with 29.0%.

According to the results of the LFS, in Q3 2021 the inactive workforce is quite high at 59.4%, with a special focus on females with 77.5%, compared to males with 41.1%.

For the implementation of LFS in Q3 2021, the methodology and standards applied by KAS are harmonized with recommendations of Eurostat.
