Labour Force Survey (LFS) in Kosovo, 2021

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has released the Results of the Labour Force Survey (LFS) for the year of 2021.

According to the results, two thirds of the population in Kosovo are working age population. The working age population includes age 15-64 year old. Within the working age population, the rate of participation in the workforce is 39.3%.

The rate of employment in the Labour Force Survey in 2021 is 31.3%.

The highest employment is for males 45.9%, while employment for females is 16.5%.

Females are employed mainly in the sector of education, trade and health care, by 51.8%, while males are mainly employed in the sector of trade, construction and manufacturing by 41.8%.

Economic sectors that continues to employ are trade with 16.8%; construction by 10.5%; manufacturing by 10.3%; and education by 10.1%. While other sectors participate with a lower percentage in employment.

Regarding employees with contracts, it turns out that 43.5% of employees have a permanent contract in their main job, while 56.5% have a temporary contract.

According to the results of LFS, in 2021 the unemployment rate was 20.7%.

Unemployment was highest among females at 25.0%, compared to males at 19.0%. The highest unemployment rate is in the age group 15-24 year old with 38.0%.

According to the results of LFS, in 2021 inactive labour force is quite high at 60.7%, with a focus on females at 78.0%, compared to males at 43.4%.

For the implementation of LFS in 2021, the methodology and standards applied by KAS are harmonized with the recommendations of Eurostat.
