Labour Force Survey in Kosovo (LFS), Q4 2021

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has released the results of the Labour Force Survey (LFS) for the fourth quarter of 2021 (Q4 2021).

According to the results of the survey, two thirds of the population in Kosovo are of working age. The working age population includes the ages 15-64 year-old. Within the working age population, the rate of participation in labour force is 39.2%.

The employment rate by the Labour Force Survey (LFS) for the fourth quarter (Q4) 2021 was 31.7%.

The highest employment was among males with 46.7%, while employment among females was 16.8%.

Females are mainly employed in the education, trade and health care sectors, with 48.6% of them, while males are mainly employed in the trade, manufacturing and construction sectors with 38.2%.

The economic sectors that lead with employment continue to be: trade with 15.1%; manufacturing with 10.4%; construction with 9.1%; and education with 8.8%. While, other sectors participate with a smaller percentage in employment.

As for those employed with contracts, it occurs that 46.4% of employed persons have a permanent contract in their main job, while 53.6% have a temporary contract.

According to the results of the LFS, in Q4 2021 the unemployment rate is 19.0%.

The most pronounced unemployment is among females with 24.1%, compared to males with 17.0%. The highest unemployment rate is among the age group 15-24 year-old with 34.6%.

According to the results of the LFS, in Q4 2021, the inactive workforce is quite high at 60.8%, with a special focus on females with 77.9%, compared to males with at 43.7%.

For the implementation of LFS in Q3 2021, the methodology and standards applied by KAS are harmonized with recommendations of Eurostat.
