Labor Force Survey, Q4 2019

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the results of the Labor Force Survey (LFS) in the fourth quarter of 2019.

The survey covered 428 enumeration areas throughout the country, where 3 737 households were selected according to the random method from the Population and Housing Census 2011.

This publication contains detailed data on employment and unemployment by age, gender, employment status, economic activity, occupation and other similar issues related to the labor market.

According to the results of this publication, two thirds of the population in Kosovo are working age population. The working age population includes the age 15-64 year olds.

Within the working age population, the rate of participation in the labour force is 41.4%.

Employment rate in the Labour Force Survey in the fourth quarter of 2019 is 30.7%.

Highest employment rate is among males 47.0%, while employment to females is 14.2%. Females are employed mainly in the sectors of: education, trade and health care, with 53.5%, while males are mainly employed in the sectors of: trade, construction and manufacturing, with 43.8%.

Economic sectors that led with employment continue to be: trade with 16.0%; construction with 11.8%; manufacturing with 11.7%; and education with 10.2%. Other sectors have a lower share of employment.

Regarding the employees with contract, it turns out that 54.0% of employees have a permanent contract in their main job, while 46.0% have a temporary contract.

According to LFS results, in Q4 2019 the unemployment rate is 25.9%.

Unemployment rate is highest among females at 36.6%, compared to 22.0% for males. The most pronounced unemployment rate is in the age group of 15-24 with 49.1%.

According to LFS results, in Q4 2019, inactive workforce is quite high at 58.6%, with a particular focus on females at 77.6%, compared to males at 39.8%.
