Labor Force Survey in Kosovo, Q4 2016
Kosovo Statistics Agency (KSA) has published the main results of the Labor Force Survey (LFS) for the fourth quarter (Q4) 2016.
The survey was spread in 584 enumeration areas in the whole country, which surveyed 3 465 households selected randomly in the framework of the Population, Households and Dwellings Census 2011. Households selected for the survey, except that they had a survey, they had three re-surveys according to the reference period.
This publication contains detailed data on employment and unemployment according to age, gender, employment status, economic activity, occupation and other similar issues dealing with the labor market.
According to results, this publication indicates that two-thirds of the population in Kosovo are working age population, where in the working age population are included ages 15-64.
Within the working age population, the rate of labor force participation is 41.3%.
The employment rate in the Labor Force Survey (LFS) for the fourth quarter (Q4) 2016 was 29.5%. Employment is higher for males with 45.6%, while employment among females is 12.9%. Female are employed mainly in the sectors of education, trade and health care, with about 52%, while male are mainly employed in the sector of construction, manufacturing and trade 44%.
The economic sectors that lead to employment continue to be: trade with 14.1%, manufacturing 12.9%, construction 12.5% and education by 9.8%. While other sectors participate with the smaller percentage in employment.
Regarding employment contracts, it appears that 29.9% of employed persons are permanently in their main job, while 70.1% have a temporary contract.
According to the LFS results for Q4 2016, the unemployment rate is 28.7%. Unemployment is more pronounced among females with 34.3%, compared with 26.9% for males. The rate of unemployment is emphasizing the age group 15-24 with 52.2%.
According to the LFS results for Q4 2016, the inactive force is quite high, 58.7%, with a particular focus on females with 80.4%, compared with 37.6% for males.
For the realization of LFS Q4 2016, methodology and standards applied by KAS are harmonized with Eurostat recommendations.
