Labor Force Survey in Kosovo, Q2 2017

Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the results of the Labor Force Survey (LFS) for the second quarter of 2017.

The survey has been extended to 598 enumeration areas throughout the country, with 3582 households selected randomly within the the frames of the Population, Households and Dwellings Census 2011. Households selected for the survey besides having a survey, they also had three re-surveys in accordance with the reference period.

This publication contains detailed data on employment and unemployment according to age, gender, employment status, economic activity, occupation and other issues related to the labor market.

According to the results of this publication, two-thirds of the population in Kosovo is a working age population. The working age population includes age 15-64 years.

Within the working age population, the participation rate in the workforce is 43.0%.

The employment rate in the Labor Force Survey (LFS) for the second quarter (Q2) 2017 is 29.9%.

The highest employment rate is to male (46.8%), while female employment is 12.7%. Females are employed mainly in the sector of education, health care and trade, with 47.1% of them, while males are mostly employed in the sector of construction, manufacturing and trade, with 47.4%.

Economic sectors which continue to employ, continue to be: Trade with 14.5%; Manufacture with 13.9%; Construction with 13.6%; and Education with 8.9%. Meanwhile, other sectors participate with the lowest percentage in employment.

Concerning employees with the working contract, it turns out that 29.0% of employed persons have permanent working contract in their main job, while 71.0% have a temporary working contract.

According to the results of the LFS in Q2 2017, the unemployment rate is 30.6%.

The most pronounced unemployment is to females by 36.6%, compared with males, 28.8%. The most pronounced unemployment rate is in the age group 15-24 with 50.9%.

According to the results of the LFS, in Q2 2017, inactive force is quite high at 57.0%, with a particular focus on females by 80.0% compared to males, 34.3%.

For the implementation of LFS, Q2 2017, the methodology and standards applied by KAS are harmonized with Eurostat recommendations.
