Labor Force Survey in Kosovo, 2020
The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the Results of the Labor Force Survey (LFS), in 2020.
According to the results, two thirds of the population in Kosovo are working age population. The working age population includes age 15-64 year olds. Within the working age population, the rate of participation in the workforce in 38.3%.
The rate of employment in the Labor Force Survey in 2020 is 28.4%.
The highest employment is for males 42.8%, while employment for females is 14.1%.
Females are employed mainly in the sectors of education, trade and health care, by 52.7%, while males are mainly employed in the sectors of trade, construction and manufacturing by 44.1%.
Economic sectors that continues to employ are trade with 17.0%; manufacturing by 11.8%; construction by 11.1%; and education by 10.1%. While other sectors participate with a lower percentage in employment.
Regarding employees with contracts, it turns out that 42.3% of employees have a permanent contract in their main job, while 57.7% have a temporary contract.
According to the results of LFS, in 2020 the unemployment rate was 25.9%.
Unemployment was highest among females at 32.3%, compared to males at 23.5%. The highest unemployment rate is in the age group 15-24 with 49.1%.
According to the results of LFS, in 2020 inactive labour force is quite high at 61.7%, with a particular focus on females at 79.2%, compared to males at 44.0%.
For the implementation of LFS in 2020, the methodology and standards applied by KAS are harmonized with the recommendations of Eurostat.
