Labor Force Survey in Kosovo, 2019

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the results of the Labor Force Survey (LFS) in 2019.

The survey was extended to 998 enumeration areas across the country, with 8,815 households selected randomly by the Households and Housing Census 2011.

This publication contains detailed data on employment and unemployment by age, gender, employment status, economic activity, occupation and other similar issues related to the labor market.

According to the results of this publication, two thirds (2/3) of the population in Kosovo are working age population. The working age population includes age 15-64 year olds.

Within the working age population, the rate of participation in the workforce is 40.5%.

The rate of employment in the Labor Force Survey in 2019 is 30.1%.

The highest employment rate is among males by 46.2%, while employment to females is 13.9%. Females are employed mainly in the sectors of education, trade and healthcare, by 53.0%, while males are mainly employed in the sectors of trade, construction and manufacturing, by 46.3%.

Economic sectors that continue to employ continue to be: trade by 17.0%; construction by 12.6%; manufacturing by 11.9%; and education by 10.0%. While other sectors participate with a lowest percentage in employment.

Regarding contracted employees, it turns out that 45.3% of employees have a permanent contract in their main job, while 54.7% have a temporary contract.

According to results of the LFS, the unemployment rate in 2019 was 25.7%.

Unemployment was highest among females at 34.4%, compared to males at 22.6%. The most pronounced unemployment rate is in the age group 15-24 by 49.4%.

According to the results of the LFS, inactive labour force in 2019 was quite high at 59.5%, with a particular focus on females at 78.9%, compared to males at 40.3%.

For the implementation of LFS in 2019, the methodology and standards applied by KAS are harmonized with the recommendations of Eurostat.
