Kosovo International Trade in goods in 2021

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has released data on the flow of export and import in 2021.

The publication of Kosovo International Trade in goods in 2021 includes detailed explanations about what our country exports to the foreign market and what it imports from the foreign market.

Trade in goods in 2021 had a trade deficit in the amount of 3,9 billion Euros, which indicates a higher trade deficit by (39.2%) compared to 2020, indicating a negative balance. Total exports this year were 755,7 million Euros, while imports 4,6 billion Euros. Exports cover imports by only 16.1%.

Comparing the export data for Kosovo goods in 2021 with that of 2020, the figures indicate that we have an annual increase of (59.1%), an increase which still has a negative trade balance of Kosovo.

The following groups of sections had a positive trend of export growth from 2011-2021: plant products from 12,7 million Euros to 31,9 million Euros, prepared foodstuffs, beverages, alcoholic beverages and tobacco from 12,9 million Euros to 57,7 million Euros, plastics, rubber and articles thereof from 12,4 million Euros to 80,4 million Euros, miscellaneous produced articles from 2,0 million Euros to 156,7 million Euros, etc.

Data on trade in goods for Kosovo Import in 2021 have marked an annual increase of about (42.1%) compared to the previous year 2020.

The following groups of sections had a positive trend of import growth from 2011-2021: prepared foodstuffs, beverages, alcoholic beverages and tobacco from 304,0 million Euros to 555,9 million Euros, chemical industry products from 181,1 million Euros to 355,8 million Euros, plastics, rubber and articles thereof from 137,5 million Euros to 338,8 million Euros, base metals and articles thereof from 228,1 million Euros to 518,6 million Euros, etc.

Kosovo's exports to EU-27 countries amounted to 237,7 million Euros, or about (31.5%) of total exports, with an increase of (45.4%). The main partners for the export of goods to the EU are: Germany (8.2%), Italy (8.0%), the Netherlands (2.7%), etc.

According to the chapters, the highest share of EU countries has the following groups of exports: iron and steel 54,3 million Euros, or about (22.9%), plastics and articles thereof 44,0 million Euros, or about (18.5 %), iron and steel articles 16,3 million Euros, or about (6.9%), Furniture: beds, mattresses, mattress pads and similar layers filled with lamps and lighting fittings, not included elsewhere, 14,3 million Euro, or about (6.0%), etc.

EU countries cover most of Kosovo's total imports.

Kosovo's imports from EU-27 countries were around 2,0 billion Euros, or (44.3%) of total imports, with an increase of (37.4%). Imports with the highest share were from: Germany (13.1%), Italy (5.9%), Greece (4.4%), Slovenia (3.8%) and Poland (2.8%), etc.

Imports with the highest share were in these chapters: various means of transport, reaching 351,0 million Euros, or about (16.9%), mineral fuels and mineral oils, products of their destination, reaching 304,6 million Euros, or about (14.7%), etc.

During 2021, Kosovo's exports to CEFT countries amounted to 278,4 million Euros, or (36.8%) of total exports, with an increase by (32.1%). The main export partners in CEFT countries are: Albania (14.7%), Macedonia (11.5%), Serbia (5.9%) and Montenegro (3.3%).

According to the chapters, the highest share of CEFT countries are in the following groups of exports: iron and steel, reaching 55,3 million Euros, or about (19.9%), iron and steel articles reaching 44,6 million Euro, or about (16.0%), beverages, alcoholic beverages and vinegar reaching 25.5 million Euro, or about (9.2%), etc.

Meanwhile, imports from CEFT countries in 2021, amounted to 892.5 million Euros, or (19.1%) of total imports, with an increase by (45.1%). The countries with the highest share of imports were: Serbia (6.5%), Albania (5.7%), Macedonia (5.2%).

Imports with the highest participation were in the following chapters: iron and steel where they amounted to 180,0 million Euros, or about (20.2%), mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distinction; bituminous substance; mineral waxes. where they reached 99,1 million Euros, or about (11.1%), Beverages, alcoholic beverages and vinegar, where they reached 61,4 million Euros, or about (6.9%) etc.

Kosovo's exports to other countries amounted to 239,5 million Euros, or (31.7%). The most important export partners are: USA (16.3%), Switzerland (7.4%).

While Kosovo's imports with other countries amounted to 1.7 billion Euros, or (36.6%). The countries with the highest share of imports in this group were: Turkey (12.5%) and China (9.7%).
