The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has released the results of the Industrial Waste Survey (IWS) for the year 2021. The reporting units included in the survey were businesses with 10 or more employees.

The industrial waste survey was carried out according to NACE Rev.2. The companies are classified according to NACE Rev.2 in the sectors of the following activities: A- Agriculture, forestry and fishing), B - Mining and quarrying, C - Manufacturing, D - Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, E - Water supply, sewerage, waste management and land management, F - Construction, and G-U - Service sectors.

The results from IWS 2021 indicate that in total: the amount of industrial waste generated in 2021 was 2 214 928 tons, or 3.6% higher compared to 2020.

The 2021 data indicate that the largest quantity of waste generated, according to industry sectors, was in: Sector D (Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply) with 1 267 879 tons and Sector B (Mining and Quarrying) with 562 343 tons.

In total, the quantity of processed waste was 2 212 927 tons, or 3.5% higher, compared to 2020.
