Slight increase in import prices

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the Import Price Index (IMPI) in the third quarter of 2020, Q3 2020

The total import price index in Kosovo increased by 0.3% in Q3 2020, compared to Q2 2020. The largest price increases by sectors were: leather and articles thereof (6.1%); means of transport (3.5%); mineral products (1.9%); optical, photographic, measuring, medical and musical instruments, and clock mechanisms (1.9%); footwear (1.5%); base metals and articles thereof (1.4%); machinery and electrical equipment (1.2%); prepared foodstuffs, beverages and tobacco (0.7%); and miscellaneous manufactured articles (0.7%).

The increase was mainly neutralized by the decrease in prices by sectors: plant products (-9.0%); textile and articles thereof (-3.1%); paper and articles thereof (-2.4%); edible oils (-2.1%); plastics, rubber and articles thereof (-1.1%); live animals and their outputs (-0.6%); chemical industry products (-0.4%); and articles of stone, mortar, ceramics and glass products (-0.2%).

Compared the Q3 2020 with Q3 2019, import prices decreased by an average of (-2.3%). The largest decreases by sectors were: mineral products (-17.7%); textile and articles thereof (-14.1%); base metals and articles thereof (-2.9%); paper and articles thereof (-0.4%); chemical industry products (-0.2%); and live animals and their outputs (-0.1%).

The decrease was neutralized mainly by the increase of prices by sectors of: means of transport (5.3%); leather and articles thereof (5.0%); footwear (4.9%); plant products (4.0%); machinery and electrical equipment (2.2%); optical, photographic, measuring, medical and musical instruments, and clock mechanisms (1.7%); prepared foodstuffs, beverages and tobacco (1.5%); plastics, rubber and articles thereof (1.4%); stone, mortar, ceramic and glass articles (0.7%); and various manufactured articles (0.5%).
