Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KSA) has published the Import Price Index (IPI) for the first quarter (Q1) 2017.

The overall import price index in Kosovo rose by 1.3% in Q1 2017, compared to Q4 2016. The biggest increase in prices by sectors was: Mineral products (6.8%); Vegetable products (5.3%); Basic metals and articles thereof (2.8%); Leather and articles thereof (2.8%); Plastics, rubbers and articles thereof (1.1%); Textiles and articles thereof (1.1%); Various manufactured articles (0.6%); Optical, photographic, measuring, medical and musical instruments, as well as clock mechanisms (0.6%); Nutritional oils (0.4%); and Wood and articles thereof (0.2%).

The rise was neutralized mainly due to the fall in prices by sectors: Paper and articles thereof (-4.9%); Shoes (-1.9%); Articles of stone, mortar, ceramic and glass products (-1.1%); Machinery and electrical equipment (-0.7%); Chemical industry products (-0.5%); Means of transport (-0.5%); and Prepared foodstuffs, beverages and tobacco (-0.1%).

Meanwhile, compared Q1 2016 with Q1 2017, import prices in Kosovo rose to an average of 5.2%. The largest increase by sector were: Mineral products (25.0%); Base metals and articles thereof (9.1%); Live animals and their products (8.9%); Leather and articles thereof (7.9%); Vegetable products (6.4%); Optical, photographic, measuring, medical and musical instruments as well as clock mechanisms (4.0%); Wood and articles thereof (2.2%); Various manufactured articles (1.6%); Prepared foodstuffs, beverages and tobacco (1.3%); Articles of stone, mortar, ceramic and glass products (1.1%); Machinery and electrical equipment (0.6%); and Plastics, rubbers and articles thereof (0.3%).

The rise was neutralized mainly due to the fall in prices by sectors of: Paper and articles thereof (-4.6%); Shoes (-4.2%); Nutritional oils (-3.3%); Textiles and articles thereof (-2.0%); Chemical industry products (-1.0%); and Means of transport (-0.1%).
