Health Statistics, 2021

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has released the "Health Statistics" for the year of 2021.

This publication provides data on the total number of employees in public and private health institutions, as well as other health activities in the Republic of Kosovo.

The publication of Health Statistics 2021 provides data on the activities of the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (UCCK), the activities of general hospitals, visits to the Main Family Medicine Centers (MFMC), preclinical services, TB patients, infectious diseases, patients with malignant diseases, those affected by COVID-19, licensed private institutions, health insurance, injured and deceased in the workplace, Services from Professional Mental Health Centers, etc.

The results of this publication indicate that the total number of employees in health in the public sector, in 2021, was 13 448 employees, of which: 2 776 were specialist physicians; 7 707 nurses; and 2 323 non-medical staff.

There were 3 168 800 visits to Family Medicine Centers, of which: 226 822 were dental visits; 1 301 151 were laboratory services; and 5 351 537 were special interventions and services.

In the General Hospitals there were: 319 824 days of recovery; 73 253 hospitalized patients; and 15 091 operated patients. Also, 715 185 outpatient visits were performed.

In 2021, in the University Clinical Center (UCCK) there were: 408 551 days of recovery; 90 595 hospitalized patients; and 15 034 operated patients. About 414 317 diagnostic visits for patients were also performed; 414 317 outpatient visits; 1 806 540 laboratory services.

In the University Clinical Dental Center of Kosovo (UCDCK) were performed 257 009 dental services in total, of which: about 45 073 checks or screening visits; 141 593 services for patients outside Prishtina, etc.

The number of new cases identified and treated with malignant and benign diseases in 2021 was 3 270, while the number of people treated during 2021 was 4 041 people. Whereas, the largest number of those with malignant and benign diseases belonged to the age group 65-69 years, with a total of 474 cases.

The number of dialysis performed in 2021 in all public hospitals in Kosovo was 117 431. Whereas, the number of services by professional mental health centers was 110 512. There were 447 cases of TBC, of ​​which 192 were female and 255 were male.

The number of deaths from contagious diseases was 1 690 persons, with the highest number of deaths being from COVID-19 with 1 655 cases.

The number of medical staff engaged in UCCK and general hospitals, which treated patients with COVID-19, was 1 951 persons.

According to the chambers of health professionals, in Kosovo there were 34 468 licensed health workers, of them 24 571 are females and 9 897 are males.

The number of licensed private health institutions has reached 1 852, of which 29 hospitals and 1 8236 other health institutions such as: ambulances, polyclinics, laboratories, cabinets, etc. Out of a total of 1 823 licensed private health institutions, the largest number are dental clinics with 417 of them.
