Health Statistics, 2019
The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published “Health Statistics” in 2019.
This publication provides data on the total number of employees in public health institutions, public and private, as well as other health activities in the Republic of Kosovo.
This publication also provides information on the activities of the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (UCCK), activities of general hospitals, visits to the Main Family Medicine Centers, licensed private institutions, pre-clinical services, TBC patients, contagious diseases, health insurance, etc.
According to the results of this publication, it turns out that in 2019 the total number of public sector health workers was 13 518, out of which 3 555 were specialist doctors; 8 386 nurses and 1 577 non-medical staff.
The total number of services provided by the Family Medicine Centers was 12 315 627 services, of which: 3 953 887 visits to family medicine; in dentistry there were 434 668 visits; there were 2 321 902 services in laboratories; and in special interventions and services were 5 605 170 visits.
In the General Hospitals there were 380 111 days of recovery with 86 595 hospitalized patients, where 18 199 patients were operated.
Also, 880 367 laboratory visits were carried out, while 1 617 969 laboratory services were performed.
In 2019, there were 487 238 days of recovery at the University Clinical Center with 78 662 hospitalized patients, of which 23 905 were operated. Also, about 306 919 patient diagnostic visits were carried out; 596 632 outpatient visits; 463 924 laboratory services and 582 617 special services.
At the University Dental Clinical Center of Kosovo (UDCCK) 380 327 dental services were provided in total, out of which about 63 861 checks or screening visits; 97 530 visits from patients outside Prishtina, etc.
The number of cases identified and treated with malignant and benign diseases in 2019 was 2 652 cases, while the largest number of those with malignant and benign diseases belonged to the age group 60-64, with a total of 394 cases.
The number of dialysis performed in 2019 in all public hospitals in Kosovo was 126 596 cases. Whereas, the number of services provided by professional mental health centers was 199 082.
There were 611 cases of TBC, of which 301 were female and 310 were male.
The number of deaths from contagious diseases was 117 persons, where the highest number of deaths was from the disease "Infiltratio pulmo / SARI" (with accompanying dg.), a total of 41 persons.
According to chambers of health professionals in Kosovo there are 23 858 licensed health workers, of whom 14 786 are female and 9 072 are male.
The number of licensed private health institutions reached 1 561, of which 25 hospitals and 1 536 other health institutions such as: ambulances, polyclinics etc.
Out of the total of 1 561 licensed private health institutions, the largest number are the dental clinics with 415, or 25.15%, of the total number of licensed private health institutions.
