Health Statistics, 2018
The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published Health Statistics in 2018.
This publication provides data on the total number of employees in public health institutions by gender, their education level, data on persons licensed to perform health activities in public or private institutions in the Republic of Kosovo. This publication also provides information on the activities of the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (UCCK), activities of general hospitals, visits to the Main Family Medicine Centers, licensed private institutions, pre-clinical services, TBC patients, contagious diseases, etc.
According to the results of this publication, it turns out that in 2018 the total number of public sector health workers was 13 180, out of which 3 486 were specialist doctors; 8 226 nurses and 1 468 non-medical staff.
The total number of services provided by the Family Medicine Centers was 13 215 001 services, of which: 4 136 388 visits to family medicine; in dentistry there were 683 133 visits; there were 2 665 980 services in laboratories; and in special interventions and services were 4 582 422 visits.
In the General Hospitals there were 381 340 days of recovery with 84 222 hospitalized patients, where 18 376 patients were operated.
Also, 825 381 laboratory visits were carried out, while 1 571 836 laboratory services were performed.
In 2018, there were 465 488 days of recovery at the University Clinical Center with 78 791 hospitalized patients, of which 22 715 were operated. Also, about 352 377 patient diagnostic visits were carried out; 515 033 outpatient visits; 2 930 787 laboratory services and 551 036 special services.
At the University Dental Clinical Center of Kosovo (UDCCK) 330 522 dental services were provided in total, out of which about 51 829 checks or screening visits; 81 757 visits from patients outside Prishtina, etc.
The number of cases identified and treated with malignant and benign diseases in 2018 was 2 475 cases, while the largest number of those with malignant and benign diseases belonged to the age group 60-64, with a total of 392 cases, or expressed in percentage 15.9%.
The number of dialysis performed in 2018 in all public hospitals in Kosovo was 124 446 cases. Whereas, the number of services provided by professional mental health centers was 352 380.
There were 702 cases of TBC, of which 338 were female and 364 were male.
The number of deaths from contagious diseases was 63, with the highest death toll from Sepsis with 21 people, or 33.3%.
According to chambers of health professionals in Kosovo there are 19 241 licensed health workers, of whom 13 441 are female and 5 800 are male.
The number of licensed private health institutions reached 1 592, of which 27 hospitals and 1 565 other health institutions such as: ambulances, polyclinics etc.
Out of the total of 1 592 licensed private health institutions, the largest number are the dental clinics with 418, or 26.25%, of the total number of licensed private health institutions.
