Health Statistics, 2016
Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published Health Statistics for 2016. This publication provides data on the total number of employees in public health institutions according to gender and educational level; data on the activities of the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (UCCK); activities of general hospitals; medical visits to the Main Family Medicine Centers (MFMC); preclinical services; data on patients with TB; for contagious diseases in Kosovo, etc.
According to the results of this publication, it results that in 2016 the total number of public health employees in the public sector was 14 048, out of which 3 626 were specialists phisicians, 8 950 nurses and 1 472 non-medical staff.
The number of cases treated with malignant and benign diseases in public health institutions was 2 514. While in private hospitals were treated about 509 cases.
During 2016, there were 481 292 days of recovery for patients at the University Clinical Center, 74 728 hospitalised patients, and 22 610 patients were operated. Meanwhile, there were about 1 002 173 special and diagnostic services for patients, while laboratory services (parameters) were performed to 1 146 209 for 293 731 patients.
Also, at the University Dental Clinic of Kosovo (UDCK) there were 58 891 check visits; 188 155 dental services and 91 355 services for patients outside Prishtina, were offered.
The number of licensed private health institutions has reached 1 333, out of which 26 are hospitals and 1 307 other health institutions, such as: ambulances, polyclinics, etc. The largest number of licensed ambulances are dental clinics with 549 or 29.5% of licensed private institutions.
