Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, October 2020

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) in October 2020, with the base year 2015 = 100.

Monthly inflation measured by the harmonized index of consumer prices in October 2020 was 0.2%.

The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher by 0.2% in October 2020, compared to September 2020. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in the COICOP subgroups: milk, cheese and eggs (3.2%); oils and fats (3.2%); vegetables (7.6%); solid fuels, firewood, pellets, etc. (2.5%); with a combined impact of these subgroups by 0.4 percent on the HICP.

A decrease in prices is observed in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (-0.3%); fruits (-7.5%); use of personal transport means (-0.5%) - (slight decline in oil and gasoline prices), with a combined impact of these subgroups by -0.2 percent in the HICP.

The annual inflation rate measured in October 2020 to October 2019 was (-0.2%).

The total harmonized index of consumer prices decreased by an average of (-0.2%) in October 2020, compared to October 2019. This is mainly explained by the decline in consumer prices in this period in the COICOP subgroups: fruits (-3.6%); glassware, cutlery and kitchen utensils (-4.3%); purchase of vehicles (-1.8%); use of personal transport means (-15.0%) - (decline in oil and gasoline prices), with a combined impact of these subgroups by -1.4 percent in the HICP.

Price increase is observed in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (2.3%); meat (1.3%); milk, cheese and eggs (2.2%); oils and fats (3.4%); vegetables (6.7%); sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and cakes (3.0%); water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (2.0%); tobacco (2.0%); medical products, apparatus and equipment (4.3%); outpatient services (5.5%); hotel services (1.8%); insurance (19.7%) - (increase in vehicle insurance prices last year), with a combined impact of these subgroups by 1.2 percent in the HICP.
