Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, November 2019

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published “Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices” (HICP) in November 2019, with the base year 2015 = 100.

Monthly inflation measured by the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices in November 2019 was 0.2%.

The annual inflation rate measured in November 2019 with November 2018 was 1.7%.

The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices was higher by 0.2% in November 2019 compared to October 2019. This was mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in the COICOP subgroups: milk, cheese and eggs (2.2%), vegetables (3.0%), insurance (19.5%) - (26% increase in car insurance prices led to a 0.1% increase in the HICP), with a common impact of these subgroups by 0.3 percent in the HICP.

The increase was mainly counteracted by the decrease in prices in the COICOP subgroups: fruit (-2.0%), transportation services (-2.1%) - (decrease of air transport ticket prices) with a common impact of these subgroups by -0.1 percent in the HICP.

The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices Index was higher by 1.7% in November 2019 compared to November 2018. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices over this period in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (7.0%), meat (2.0%), milk, cheese and eggs (3.2%), fruits (5.9%), sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and sweets (2.0%) ), food products, salts, spices, etc. (2.4%), coffee, tea and cocoa (11.2%), water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (1.4%), alcoholic beverages (1.3%), tobacco (2.8%) ), home appliances (1.6%), glassware, cutlery and kitchen utensils (3.4%), goods and services for routine household maintenance (3.1%), outpatient services (2.4%) , car purchase (3.6%), telephone and fax services (0.9%), hotel services (0.7%), accommodation (6.0%), personal belongings (3.3%) , insurance (19.5%) - (26% increase in car insurance prices led to a 0.1% increase in HICP), with a combined impact of these subgroups by 2.2 percent in the HICP.

The increase was mainly counteracted by the decrease in consumer prices in the COICOP subgroups: vegetables (-5.0%), use of personal transport means (-2.3%) - (decrease of oil and gasoline prices), transport services (-5.7%) - (decrease of air transport ticket prices) with a common impact of these subgroups by -0.5 percent in the HICP.
