Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, March 2021

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) in March 2021, with the base year 2015 = 100.

Monthly inflation measured by the harmonized index of consumer prices was 0.4% in March 2021.

The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher at an average of 0.4% in March 2021, compared to February 2021. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in the COICOP subgroups: oils and fats (2.8%); fruits (3.8%); alcoholic beverages (1.6%); footwear (3.1%); fuels and lubricants for personal transport means (4.7%); with a combined impact of these subgroups by 0.5 percent on the HICP.

While, a decrease in prices is observed in the COICOP subgroup, vegetables (-1.5%), with an impact of this subgroup by (-0.1 percent) on the HICP.

The annual inflation rate, measured in March 2021 with March 2020, was 1.2%.

The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher at an average of 1.2 percent in March 2021, compared to March 2020. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in this period in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (2.5%); milk, cheese and eggs (2.5%); oils and fats (10.3%); water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (1.3%); alcoholic beverages (2.5%); tobacco (4.6%); water supply and various services related to the settlement (1.5%); gas (3.2%); solid fuels, firewood, pellets, etc. (3.9%); household appliances (3.4%); pharmaceutical products (3.5%); fuels and lubricants for personal transport means (3.6%); transport services (4.2%) - “increase in air transport ticket prices”, telephone and fax services (20.3%); audio-visual, photographic equipment for information processing (2.7%); hotel services (1.0%); personal care (1.0%); and financial services (4.2%), with a combined impact of these subgroups by 2.0 percent on the HICP.

While a decrease in prices is observed in the COICOP subgroups: fruits (-12.9%); vegetables (-5.7%); electricity (-10.8%) - the reduction of the price of electricity has come from the implementation of the Law on Economic Recovery, Covid -19, Nr. 07 / L-016, article 15, for the period January - May 2021 - with a joint impact of these subgroups of (-0.8 percent) on the HICP.
