Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, March 2020

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the “Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices” (HICP) in March 2020, with the base year 2015 = 100.

The monthly inflation measured by the harmonized consumer price index was (-0.1%) in March 2020 compared to February 2020. This is mainly explained by the decrease in consumer prices in the COICOP subgroup: use of personal transport means (-6.4%) - (decrease in oil and gasoline prices) with an impact of this subgroup by (-0.5%) on the HICP.

Meanwhile, price increases are observed in subgroups: bread and cereals (0.2%); meat (0.4%); fruits (7.2%); sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and cakes (1.6%); alcoholic beverages (2.1%); clothing (2.4%); goods and services for the usual maintenance of the household (1.5%), with a common impact of these subgroups by (0.4%) on the HICP. As well as price changes of products and services in some subgroups, without any impact on the HICP.

The annual inflation rate measured in March 2020 with March 2019, was 0.7%.

The total harmonized index of consumer prices was higher by 0.7% in March 2020 compared to March 2019. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in this period in COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals. (2.0%); meat (2.9%); milk, cheese and eggs (2.0%); oils and fats (2.5%); fruits (13.0%); sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and cakes (4.4%); various food products, salts, spices, etc., (4.2%); coffee, tea and cocoa (10.8%); water, non-alcoholic beverages, fruit and vegetable juices (1.7%); electricity, gas and other fuels (0.4%); wood for heating, utensils, utensils and various kitchen utensils (2.2%); goods and services for the usual maintenance of the household (4.7%); medical products, apparatus and equipment (3.6%); outpatient services (6.1%); purchase of vehicles (1.7%); hotel services (2.5%); personal belongings (4.2%); insurance (19.2%); vehicle insurance, with a common impact of these subgroups by 1.8 percent on the HICP.

Whereas, the decrease of prices is observed in the subgroups: vegetables (-13.7%); clothing (-0.9%); use of personal transport means (-7.5%) - (decrease in oil and gasoline prices), transport services (-2.7%) - (decrease in air ticket prices), with a common influence of these subgroups by (-1.1 percent) on the HICP. As well as price changes of products and services of some subgroups without any impact on the HICP.
