Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, June 2021

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) in June 2021, with the base year 2015 = 100.

Monthly inflation measured by the harmonized index of consumer prices was unchanged (0.0%) in June 2021, compared to May 2021.

Despite the unchanged in June 2021, compared to May 2021, there are some changes in the prices of items and services in the groups and subgroups of COICOP. Decrease in prices is observed in the subgroups: milk, cheese and eggs (-1.5%); vegetables (-9.2%); alcoholic beverages (-2.0%); with a combined impact of these subgroups by (-0.5 percent) on the HICP.

Whereas, price increase is observed in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (0.6%); meat (0.2%); edible oils and fats (1.2%); fruits (3.6%); electricity (12.1%); in the period January - May 2021 was 0.0061 cents cheaper according to the Law on Economic Recovery Covid -19, No. 07 / L-016, article 15, for the period January - May 2021, with a common impact of these subgroups by 0.5 percent on the HICP.

The annual inflation rate measured in June 2021 with June 2020 was 2.4%.

The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher at an average of 2.4 percent in June 2021, compared to June 2020. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in this period in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (1.8%); edible oils and fats (27.6%); tobacco (4.3%); gas (5.7%); solid fuels, firewood, pellets, etc. (1.5%); household appliances (1.9%); fuels and lubricants for personal transport means (24.0%); telephone and fax services (20.3%); audio-visual, photographic equipment for information processing (2.7%); organized tourist holidays (3.7%); personal care (1.5%); financial services (4.2%), with a combined impact of these subgroups by 2.7 percent on the HICP.

While a decrease in prices is observed in the COICOP subgroups: fruits (-13.2%); telephone and fax equipment (-8.0%), with a combined impact of these subgroups by (-0.3 percent) on the HICP.
