Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, July 2021

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) in July 2021, with the base year 2015 = 100.

Monthly inflation measured by the harmonized index of consumer prices was 0.8% in July 2021, compared to June 2021. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (0.4%) ; milk, cheese and eggs (1.5%); fruits (1.5%); sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and cakes (0.9%); coffee, tea and cocoa (0.9%); water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (0.6%); alcoholic beverages (2.5%); gas (2.5%); purchase of vehicles (0.6%); fuels and lubricants for personal transport means (7.1%); transport services (1.8%) - (increase in air transport ticket prices); organized tourist holidays (14.2%); hotel services (0.3%), with a combined impact of these subgroups by 1.0 percent on the HICP.

Whereas, a decrease in prices is observed in the COICOP subgroup: vegetables (-4.4%), with an impact of this subgroup by (-0.2 percent) on the HICP.

The annual inflation rate measured in July 2021 with July 2020 was 3.5%.

The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher at an average of 3.5 percent in July 2021, compared to July 2020. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in this period in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (1.6%); milk, cheese and eggs (3.4%); edible oils and fats (28.2%); vegetables (8.9%); water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (1.2%); alcoholic beverages (3.2%); tobacco (2.8%); gas (9.0%); solid fuels, firewood, pellets, etc. (5.0%); household appliances (2.5%); home and garden tools and equipment (1.5%); goods and services for ordinary household maintenance (1.8%); purchase of vehicles (1.0%); spare parts and accessories for personal transport means (1.8%); fuels and lubricants for personal transport means (27.3%); maintenance and repair of personal transport means (5.7%); telephone and fax services (20.3%); audio-visual, photographic equipment for information processing (2.3%); organized tourist holidays (15.7%); hotel services (0.8%); personal care (1.2%); financial services (4.2%), with a combined impact of these subgroups of 3.8 percent on the HICP.

A decrease in prices is observed in the COICOP subgroups: fruits (-8.5%); transport services (-3.2%) - (decrease in air transport ticket prices); telephone and fax equipment (-7.0%), with a combined impact of these subgroups by (-0.3 percent) on the HICP.
