Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, January 2021
The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) in January 2021, with the base year 2015 = 100.
Monthly inflation measured by the harmonized index of consumer prices was 0.5% in January 2021.
The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher at an average of 0.5% in January 2021, compared to December 2020. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (0.7%); fruits (0.9%); vegetables (6.1%); alcoholic beverages (1.7%); tobacco (0.8%); use of personal transport means (3.7%) - "increase in oil and gasoline prices", with a common impact of these subgroups of 0.8 percent on the HICP.
Whereas, a decrease in prices is observed in the COICOP subgroups: milk, cheese and eggs (-0.5%); electricity (-10.5%) - the reduction of the price of electricity has come from the implementation of the Law on Economic Recovery, Covid -19, Nr. 07 / L-016, Article 15, for the period January - May 2021, with a common impact of these subgroups of (-0.3 percent) on the HICP.
The annual inflation rate, measured in January 2021 to January 2020, was (-0.2%).
The total harmonized index of consumer prices decreased by an average of (-0.2) percent in January 2021, compared to January 2020. This is mainly explained by the decline in consumer prices in this period in the COICOP subgroups: fruits (-13.4%); vegetables (-8.4%); clothing (-3.4%); electricity (-10.8%); glassware, cutlery and kitchen utensils (-4.3%); purchase of vehicles (-1.4%); use of personal transport means (-9.9%) - "decrease in oil and gasoline prices", with a common impact of these subgroups of (-1.9) percent on the HICP.
Whereas, price increase in this period is observed in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (2.6%); meat (0.6%); milk, cheese and eggs (3.2%); oils and fats (7.3%); sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and cakes (2.3%); water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (0.7%); alcoholic beverages (2.2%); tobacco (2.8%); solid fuels, firewood, pellets, etc. (2.6%); medical products, apparatus and equipment (2.3%); transport services (2.3%) - “increase of air transport ticket prices”, telephone and fax services (20.3%); hotel services (1.6%); personal care (1.1%), with a combined impact of these subgroups of 1.7 percent on the HICP.
