Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, January 2019
The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) for the month of January 2019, with the base year 2015 = 100.
Monthly inflation measured by the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices was 0.4% in January 2019 compared with December 2018. This is mainly explained by the increase of the consumer prices in COICOP subgroups: bread and cereal (2.1%); fruit (1.9%); vegetables (15.7%); tobacco (1.6%); vehicle purchase (1.2%), with a common impact of these subgroups by 0.9 percent in the HICP.
The increase was counteracted by the decrease of the consumer prices in COICOP subgroups: clothing (-2.6%); use of personal transport means (-4.4%); the decrease of oil and gasoline prices, transport services (-5.4%); the decrease of prices of air transport tickets, with a common impact of these subgroups by (-0.5) percent in the HICP.
The annual inflation rate measured in January 2019 with January 2018 was 3.1%.
The total harmonized index of consumer prices was higher by 3.1% in January 2019 compared to January 2018. This is mainly explained by the increase of the consumer prices in this period to COICOP subgroups: bread and cereal (10.0%); meat (4.3%); milk, cheese and eggs (5.8%); vegetables (27.2%); alcoholic beverages (3.9%); tobacco (3.5%); use of personal transport means (5.1%); increase of oil and gasoline prices, hotel services (1.7%); personal care (2.3%), with a common impact of these subgroups by 3.4% in the HICP.
The increase was counteracted mainly by the decrease of the consumer prices in COICOP subgroups: fruit (-11.8%); clothing (-2.5%), with a common impact of these subgroups by (-0.3%) in the HICP.
