Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), May 2022

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has released the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) in May 2022, with the base year 2015 = 100.

Monthly inflation measured by the harmonized index of consumer prices was 0.9% in May 2022. The annual inflation rate measured in May 2022 with May 2021 was 12.5%.

The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher at an average of 0.9% in May 2022 compared to April 2022. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (1.8%), meat (4.3%), milk, cheese and eggs (0.5%), edible oils and fats (5.2%), fruits (5.4%), sugar, jam , honey, chocolates and sweets (1.3%), various food products, sauces, spices, salt, baby food, etc. (2.3%), coffee, tea and cocoa (1.9%), water, non-alcoholic beverages, fruit and vegetable juices (1.0%), alcoholic beverages (0.9%), footwear (3.0 %), maintenance and regulation of the settlement (1.5%), solid fuels, firewood, pellets, etc. (1.3%), furniture and furnishings, carpets and other floor coverings (1.5%), household appliances (0.4%), goods and services for ordinary household maintenance (0.3%), fuels and lubricants for personal transport means (5.5%), audio-visual, photographic equipment for information processing (1.2%), hotel services (0.5%), with a combined impact of these subgroups by 1.4 percent in the HICP.

While the decline in prices is observed in the COICOP subgroups: vegetables (-10.7%), electricity (-4.7%) ((due to the decline in consumption (expenditure) of electricity in May 2022 compared to April 2022)) with an impact of -0.5 percent on the HICP.

The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher at an average of 12.5 percent in May 2022 compared to May 2021. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in this period in the COICOP subgroups. bread and cereals (27.0%), meat (18.1%), milk, cheese and eggs (22.5%), edible oils and fats (54.3%), vegetables (8.8%), sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and sweets (17.0%), various food products, sauces, spices, salt, baby food, etc. (13.9%), coffee, tea and cocoa (15.9%), mineral water, non-alcoholic beverages, fruit and vegetable juices (7.0%), alcoholic beverages (3.4%), tobacco (4.7 %), maintenance and regulation of household (9.6%), electricity (11.9%) - (increase in the price of electricity is because in the period January - May 2021 was 0.0061 cents lower according to the Law on Economic Recovery Covid -19 No. 07 / L-016 article 15), while in May 2022 there was a decrease in consumption, i.e. electricity costs for (-4.7%), gas (43.8 %), solid fuels, firewood, pellets, etc. (24.4%), furniture and furnishings, carpets and other floor coverings (5.7%), household appliances (8.3%), tools and equipment for household and garden (10.4%), goods and services for ordinary household maintenance (6.2%), purchase of vehicles (6.8%), spare parts and accessories for personal transport means (5, 6%), fuels and lubricants for personal transport means (45.3%), other services related to personal transport means (9.9%), transport services (12.8%), hotel services (10.3%), personal care (5.1%), with a combined impact of these subgroups by 12.7 percent on the HICP.

While a decrease in prices is observed in the COICOP subgroups: fruits (-7.9%) with an impact by -0.2 percent on the HICP.
