Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), January 2022
The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has released the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) in January 2022, with the base year 2015 = 100.
Monthly inflation measured by the harmonized index of consumer prices was 0.9% in January 2022.
The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher at an average of 0.9% in January 2022, compared to December 2021. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (1.2%); meat (1.3%); milk, cheese and eggs (1.5%); edible oils and fats (1.7%); vegetables (6.3%); water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (0.6%); tobacco (1.2%); water supply and various services related to the settlement (1.4%); goods and services for ordinary household maintenance (1.4%); fuels and lubricants for personal transport means (2.0%); transport services (2.3%); hotel services (1.4%); personal care (2.7%), with a combined impact of these subgroups by 0.9 percent on the HICP.
The annual inflation rate measured in January 2022 with January 2021 was 7.1%.
The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher at an average of 7.1 percent in January 2022, compared to January 2021. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in this period in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (14.9%); meat (7.6%); milk, cheese and eggs (9.0%); edible oils and fats (33.7%); vegetables (11.7%); sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and cakes (9.2%); various food products, sauces, spices, salt, baby food etc. (6.1%); coffee, tea and cocoa (10.8%); water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (2.7%); tobacco (6.2%); footwear (2.9%); maintenance and adjustment of the household (3.7%); water supply and various services related to the settlement (1.4%); electricity (12.3%) - (the increase in the price of electricity is because in the period January - May 2021 it was 0.0061 cents lower according to the Law on Economic Recovery Covid -19, No. 07 / L-016 article 15); gas (19.8%); solid fuels, firewood, pellets, etc. (12.7%); furniture and furnishings, carpets and other floor coverings (2.8%); household appliances (5.6%); glassware, cutlery and kitchen utensils (2.5%); home and garden tools and equipment (4.6%); goods and services for routine household maintenance (2.7%); pharmaceutical products (4.4%); purchase of vehicles (5.9%); spare parts and accessories for personal transport means (5.0%); fuels and lubricants for personal transport means (24.5%); maintenance and repair of personal transport means (6.7%); other services related to personal transport means (9.9%); transport services (3.0%); audio-visual, photographic equipment for information processing (2.2%); newspapers, books and office supplies (1.7%); hotel services (6.9%); personal care (4.0%); personal belongings (2.3%); and financial services (3.4%), with a combined impact of these subgroups by 7.3 percent on the HICP.
Whereas, a decrease in prices is observed in the COICOP subgroups: fruits (-5.8%); and clothing (-1.8%), with an impact of -0.2 percent) on the HICP.
