Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), February 2022
The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has released the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) in February 2022, with the base year 2015 = 100
Monthly inflation measured by the harmonized index of consumer prices was 1.1% in February 2022.
The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher at an average of 1.1% in February 2022, compared to January 2022. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (0.8%); meat (0.8%); milk, cheese and eggs (2.0%); edible oils and fats (1.0%); fruits (1.5%); vegetables (9.6%); sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and cakes (1.4%); water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (1.0%); clothing (0.7%); household appliances (1.4%); fuels and lubricants for personal transport means (5.5%); hotel services (0.6%), with a combined impact of these subgroups by 1.1 percent on the HICP.
The annual inflation rate measured in February 2022 with February 2021 was 7.5%.
The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher at an average of 7.5 percent in February 2022, compared to February 2021. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in this period in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (15.7%); meat (8.6%); milk, cheese and eggs (11.1%); edible oils and fats (32.1%); vegetables (13.8%); sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and cakes (11.3%); various food products, sauces, spices, salt, baby food etc. (6.5%); coffee, tea and cocoa (12.5%); water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (3.9%); tobacco (4.7%); maintenance and regulation of the residence (4.1%); electricity (12.3%) - (the increase in the price of electricity is because in the period January - May 2021 it was 0.0061 cents lower according to the Law on Economic Recovery Covid -19 No. 07/L-016 article 15 ), while regarding the price change for tariffs, ie the category over 800 KW, approved and applied from 09 February 2022, is still in the process of billing for electricity consumption for households which belong to this category, and based in the recommendations of KESCO officials, this change will be presented in the release of data for March 2022 (as reference month), gas (18.8%); solid fuels, firewood, pellets, etc. (14.0%); household appliances (5.3%); home and garden tools and equipment (5.4%); goods and services for routine household maintenance (3.6%); purchase of vehicles (5.4%); fuels and lubricants for personal transport means (28.2%); other services related to personal transport means (9.9%); transport services (4.0%); audio-visual, photographic equipment for information processing (2.2%); other recreational items and equipment, gardens and pets (2.6%); newspapers, books and office supplies (1.5%); hotel services (7.4%); personal care (3.5%), with a combined impact of these subgroups by 7.8 percent on the HICP.
Whereas, a decrease in prices is observed in the COICOP subgroups: fruits (-8.8%); clothing (-3.0%), with an impact of (-0.3 percent) on the HICP.
