Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), April 2023

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has released the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) for the month of April 2023 with base year 2015=100.

Monthly inflation measured by the harmonized index of consumer prices was 0.3% in April 2023.

The total harmonized index of consumer prices was higher by an average of 0.3% in April 2023, compared to March 2023. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices of COICOP subgroups: telephone equipment and telefax (27.2%); transport services (5.6%); clothing and footwear (1.5%); alcoholic beverages (1.5%); mineral water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (1.2%); and fruits (0.8%), with a common impact of these subgroups by 0.4%.

While the decrease in prices is observed in the COICOP groups and subgroups: milk, cheese and eggs (-1.4%); and vegetables (-0.6%), with an impact by (-0.1 percent) on HIPC.

The annual inflation rate measured from April 2023 to April 2022 was 6.3%.

The total harmonized index of consumer prices was lower by an average of 6.3% in April 2023, compared to April 2022. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in this period in the COICOP groups and subgroups: solid fuels, firewood, pallets, etc. (18.7%); goods and services for the usual maintenance of household (17.3%); milk, cheese and eggs (16.6%); food products (13.9%); transport services (13.4%); sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and sweets (12.8%); meat (12.4%); maintenance and arrangement of residence (11.8%); bread and cereals (11.7%); fish (10.0%); personal care (8.3%); glassware, cutlery and kitchen tools (8.0%); hotel services (7.9%); coffee, tea and cocoa (7.9%); footwear (7.8%); electricity, gas and other fuels (7.2%); alcoholic beverages (6.8%); furniture and furnishings, carpets and other floor coverings (6.8%); fruits (6.1%); mineral water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (6.0%); vegetables (5.1%); tobacco (5.0%); purchase of vehicles (3.2%); recreation and culture (2.8%); and clothing (1.9%), with a common impact of these subgroups by 6.9%.

While the decrease in prices is observed in COICOP groups and subgroups: fuels and lubricants for personal transport means (-0.6%), with an impact by (-0.6 percent) on HICP.
