Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, February 2019
The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has compiled the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) for the month of February 2019, with the base year 2015 = 100.
Monthly inflation measured by the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices was 0.4% in February 2019.
The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher by 0.4% in February 2019 compared to January 2019. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereal (0.5%); fruit (4.9%); vegetables (5.7%); clothing (2.9%); footwear (1.7%) with a common impact of these subgroups by 0.5 percent in the HICP.
The increase was counteracted by the decrease in consumer prices in the COICOP subgroups: electricity, gas and other fuels (-1.6%); the decrease of the price of firewood for heating, with an impact of this subgroup by (-0.1%) in the HICP.
The annual inflation rate measured in February 2019 with February 2018, was 3.2%.
The total harmonized index of consumer prices was higher by 3.2% in February 2019 compared to February 2018. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in this period to COICOP subgroups: bread and cereal ( 10.5%); meat (3.6%); milk, cheese and eggs (6.2%); vegetables (29.0%); alcoholic beverages (2.9%); tobacco (3.6%); goods and services for household maintenance (3.0%); use of personal transport means (4.4%); the increase of oil and gasoline prices, hotel services (1.5%); personal care (2.1%); personal effects (3.8%), with a common impact of these subgroups by 3.4 percent in the HICP.
The increase was counteracted mainly by the decrease in consumer prices in the COICOP subgroup: fruit (-11.0%), with an impact of this subgroup by (-0.2%) in the HICP.
