Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, December 2021

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) in December 2021, with the base year 2015 = 100.

Monthly inflation measured by the harmonized index of consumer prices was 0.5% in December 2021.

The total harmonized index of consumer prices was higher, at an average of 0.5% in December 2021, compared to November 2021. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (0.9%); meat (1.1%); edible oils and fats (2.4%); vegetables (4.2%); coffee, tea and cocoa (2.0%); mineral water, non-alcoholic beverages, fruit and vegetable juices (1.0%); tobacco (2.9%); solid fuels, firewood, pellets, etc. (2.1%); purchase of vehicles (0.5%); hotel services (1.5%); personal care (1.1%), with a combined impact of these subgroups of 0.7 percent on the HICP.

Whereas, a decrease in prices is observed in the COICOP subgroups: fruits (-2.7%); clothing (-1.6%); fuels and lubricants for personal transport means (-2.8%), with a combined impact of these subgroups of (-0.2 percent) on the HICP.

The annual inflation rate measured in December 2021 with December 2020 was 6.7%.

The total harmonized index of consumer prices was higher, at an average of 6.7 percent in December 2021, compared to December 2020. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in this period in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (14.4%); meat (6.2%); milk, cheese and eggs (6.8%); edible oils and fats (32.7%); vegetables (11.5%); sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and cakes (9.4%); various food products, sauces, spices, salt, baby food, etc. (5.4%); coffee, tea and cocoa (10.7%); water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (2.3%); alcoholic beverages (3.2%); tobacco (5.8%); footwear (3.4%); gas (21.6%); solid fuels, firewood, pellets, etc. (13.3%); furniture and furnishings, carpets and other floor coverings (2.8%); household appliances (5.6%); home and garden tools and equipment (4.3%); pharmaceutical products (3.3%); purchase of vehicles (5.6%); spare parts and accessories for personal transport means (4.8%); fuels and lubricants for personal transport means (28.1%); maintenance and repair of personal transport means (5.7%); other services related to personal transport means (9.9%); audio-visual, photographic equipment for information processing (2.9%); other recreational items and equipment, gardens and pets (2.4%); newspapers, books and office supplies (1.9%); hotel services (6.5%); personal care (3.1%); personal belongings (1.9%); financial services (6.0%), with a combined impact of these subgroups of 6.8 percent on the HICP.

Whereas, a decrease in prices is observed in the COICOP subgroup: fruits (-3.5%), with an impact of (-0.1) percent in HICP.

The average annual inflation rate for 2021 was 3.4%.

The total harmonized index of consumer prices in the country in 2021 was higher, at an average of 3.4 percent, compared to 2020. An increase in the consumer price index during 2021 was observed in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (4.3%); meat (1.4%); milk, cheese and eggs (3.8%); oils and fats (22.9%); vegetables (4.1%); sugar and cakes (2.2%); coffee, tea and cocoa (2.4%); water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (0.9%); alcoholic beverages (2.7%); tobacco (3.7%); gas (8.7%); solid fuels, firewood, pellets, etc. (5.9%); furniture and furnishings, carpets and other floor coverings (1.4%); household appliances (3.1%); pharmaceutical products (2.3%); purchase of vehicles (1.3%); spare parts and accessories for personal transport equipment (1.7%); fuels and lubricants for personal transport means (17.6%); maintenance and repair of personal transport means (5.3%); other services related to personal transport means (4.1%); transport services (2.0%), telephone and fax services (18.4%); audio-visual, photographic equipment for information processing (2.7%); organized vacations (4.3%); hotel services (1.8%); personal care (1.5%); financial services (4.7%), with a combined impact of these subgroups of 3.7 percent on the HICP.

Whereas, a decrease of the harmonized index of consumer prices during 2021 has been observed in the COICOP subgroups: fruits (-9.3%); electricity (-4.3%) (because in the period January - May 2021 it was 0.0061 cents per 1kwh lower according to the Law on Economic Recovery Covid -19 No. 07 / L-016 article 15), with a common impact of (-0.3 percent) in the HICP.
