Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, December 2018
The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) for the month of December 2018, with the base year 2015 = 100.
The average annual rate of inflation in 2018 was 1.1%.
Monthly inflation measured by the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices was 0.8% in December 2018 compared to November 2018. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices to COICOP subgroups: bread and cereal (2.6%); milk, cheese and eggs (2.9%); vegetables (10.8%); firewood for heating (4.7%), with a common impact of these subgroups by 0.9 percent in the HICP.
The increase was counteracted by the decrease in consumer prices to COICOP subgroups: the use of personal transport means (-0.9%) and the increase in oil and gasoline prices with an impact of this subgroup by (-0.1%) in the HICP.
The inflation rate measured in December 2018 with December 2017 was 2.9%.
The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher by 2.9% in December 2018 compared to December 2017. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in this period to COICOP subgroups: bread and cereal (7.8%); meat (4.3%); milk, cheese and eggs (4.3%); vegetables (21.1%); alcoholic beverages (2.9%); tobacco (2.9%); use of personal transport means (10.5%); oil and gasoline prices, transport services (3.5%); airline ticket prices, hotel services (2.3%), with a common impact of these subgroups by 3.4 percent in the HICP.
The increase was counteracted mainly by the decrease in consumer prices to COICOP subgroups: fruit (-12.1%); sugar, marmalade, honey, chocolate and cakes (-3.2%); water, soft drinks, juices from fruits and vegetables (-0.7%); electricity, gas and other fuels (-1.9%), furniture and appliances, carpets and other floor coverings (-2.0%); telephone and fax equipment (-4.7%); audio-visual, photographic information processing equipment (-2.5%), with a common impact of these subgroups by (-0.5) percent in the HICP.
