Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, August 2020
The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) in August 2020, with the base year 2015 = 100.
Monthly inflation measured by the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices was 0.1% in August 2020.
The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher by 0.1% in August 2020, compared to July 2020. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in the COICOP subgroups: water, soft drinks, juices from fruits and vegetables (0.5%); goods and services for ordinary household maintenance (1.6%); use of personal transport means (2.5%) - (increase in oil and gasoline prices), with a combined impact of these subgroups by 0.2 percent on the HICP.
Whereas, a decrease in prices is observed in the COICOP subgroups: fruits (-2.5%); vegetables (-1.8%), with a combined impact of these subgroups by (-0.1) percent on the HICP.
The annual inflation rate, measured in August 2020 with August 2019, was (-0.5%).
The total harmonized index of consumer prices decreased by an average of (-0.5%) in August 2020, compared to August 2019. This is mainly explained by the decline in consumer prices in this period in the COICOP subgroups: milk, cheese and eggs (-3.2%); vegetables (-3.7%); alcoholic beverages (-1.2%); electricity, gas and other fuels (-1.1%) - (decrease in prices of wood for heating), glassware, cutlery and household utensils (-3.1%); use of personal transport means (-14.0%) - (decrease in oil and gasoline prices), audio-visual, photographic equipment for information processing (-1.4%); organized holidays (-5.6%), with a common impact of these subgroups by (-1.6%) on the HICP.
Whereas, price increase is observed in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (2.6%); meat (1.0%); fruits (3.9%); sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and cakes (4.1%); coffee, tea and cocoa (2.1%); water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (1.7%); tobacco (2.2%); medical products apparatus and equipment (4.8%); outpatient services (5.5%); purchase of vehicles (0.8%); hotel services (2.4%); insurance (19.7%) - (increase in vehicle insurance prices), with a combined impact of these subgroups of 1.1 percent on the HICP.
