Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, August 2018

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) for August 2018.

Since January 2016, the harmonized index of consumer price is published with the base year 2015 = 100

Monthly inflation measured in August 2018 from the harmonized index of consumer prices was 0.4%.

The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher by 0.4% in August 2018, compared with July 2018. This is mainly explained by the increase of the consumer prices in COICOP subgroups: meat (0.8%); milk, cheese and eggs (3.0%); electricity, gas and other fuels (1.3%); transport services (4.5%) - (increase of airline ticket price) with a common impact of these subgroups by 0.5 percent in the HICP.

The rise was counteracted mainly by the fall in consumer prices in the subgroup of fruits (-4.0%) with an impact by (-0.1%) in the HICP.

Meanwhile, annual inflation was 1.5%. The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher by 1.5% in August 2018 compared to August 2017. This is mainly explained by the rise in consumer prices in this period to COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (1.0%); meat (2.5%); milk, cheese and eggs (3.9%); vegetables (16.3%); alcoholic beverages (2.3%); tobacco (2.8%); goods and services for household maintenance (3.1%); use of personal transport means (9.8%) - (increase of price of oil and gasoline); transport services (6.3%) - (increase of ticket prices of passengers by plane); hotel services (3.3%), with a common impact of these subgroups by 2.3% in the HICP.

The rise was counteracted mainly by the fall in consumer prices in COICOP subgroups: fruits (-1.4%); sugar and cakes (-7.7%); water, soft drinks, fruit juices and vegetables (-1.3%); clothing (-1.3%); footwear (-5.1%); electricity, gas and other fuels (-6.5%); furniture and appliances, carpets and other floor coverings (-2.3%); household appliances (-2.5%); mobile phone appliances (-9.0%); audio-visual, photographic information processing equipment (-4.2%), with a common impact of these subgroups by (-0.8%) in the HICP.
